How it works
As simple as a conversation
No need to write well. No keyboard. Just talk.
Create a profile for the person sharing their story
Enter the name, year of birth, place of birth, and how you'd like to be called in the book (for example "Grandma Mary" or "Grandpa Frank"). You can also add a personal dedication.
A family member can do this for you: if you're not confident with technology, ask a son, daughter or grandchild to help you set up the profile.
Choose how you'd like to tell your story
You have two options. You can follow the guided path, which starts from childhood and ends with life lessons, in a natural order. Or you can freely choose the chapter that inspires you most today.
๐ก Tip: if you don't have much time, start with a chapter close to your heart. You can always come back to the others later.
Listen to the question and answer by speaking
Each screen shows just one question, large and clear. Below the question you'll find a small hint about what you could talk about. When you're ready, press the big red button and start speaking.
You can record for as long as you like. When you've finished, press the button again to stop. You can listen back, record again, or skip the question if you'd prefer not to answer.
Your voice becomes text
After recording, the site will try to automatically turn your words into written text. You can correct the text if you like, or leave it as it is โ it's entirely optional.
๐๏ธ The audio recording is always saved. The text is an addition, not a replacement.
Create your memory book
Whenever you like โ even after your very first answer โ you can visit the "My book" section and see all your collected answers in a preview. From there you can print it or save it as a PDF to share with your family.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to use the microphone? Is it complicated?
The first time, the browser will ask permission to use the microphone. Just click "Allow". After that, it works on its own.
Are my memories saved?
Yes, everything is saved automatically on the device you're using. If you come back tomorrow on the same phone or tablet, you'll find everything just as you left it.
Can I do this activity together with a family member?
Absolutely. Many people find it more enjoyable to do it together: a son, daughter or grandchild asks the questions, and the grandparent answers.
Do I have to answer every question?
No. You can skip any question without a problem. You can return to a skipped question at any time from the archive.
Is the automatic transcription always accurate?
It depends on the browser and connection. It works best on Chrome and Edge. If it's not accurate, you can correct it by hand or ignore it โ the original audio is always saved.
